The nose offered loads of citrus (lime marmalade, lemon bonbons, orange and lemon jelly slices, zesty lemon sorbet) and grass growing round a slate quarry (distant memory of the last blast). The palate was sweet and perfumed – we found fruit pastilles, jelly babies and jammy dodgers with sweetened mint tea. The reduced nose had lots of sweeties (dolly mixtures, sherbet lemons, strawberry ropes) in paper bags – also flower meadows, tinned mandarins and vanilla. The palate was considerably improved with water – pleasant perfumed fruitiness (peach, Riesling, rainbow drops, flying saucers, limoncello) and a mouth-feel that successfully combined mineral dryness and citric effervescence.
